Evaluation and Research for K-12 Online Learning (Solana F)

This session is designed for those undertaking or planning to undertake evaluation or research activities for program improvement or accountability purposes. Participants will learn from each other and from experienced administrators, evaluators, and academic researchers. The afternoon will be structured around a series of small-group round tables led by evaluators and administrators on topics of interest to the participants in their virtual school roles, such as how to identify evaluation needs, formulate questions, define outcomes, and measure results; which methods to use to answer specific questions; how to find and then work successfully with an evaluator; how to combine research with evaluation; and how to work with academic researchers. Participants will take with them brief strategies for undertaking evaluation and research activities in their own programs. Co-facilitators Tom Clark (TA Consulting) and Susan Lowes (Teachers College/Columbia University) are joined by Leanne Archimbault (Arizona State University), Rick Ferdig (Kent State University), Cheryl Charlton (IDLA), Michael Caldwell (IDLA), and Liz Pape (VHS Inc)
